THE Impact 2023: Sustainable industry, innovations and infrastructures are the strengths of the University of Oulu

The University of Oulu has been recognized in the Times Higher Education Impact 2023 ranking for its efforts in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It ranked 94th in the "industry, innovation, and infrastructure" category, and among the top 200 universities in the goals of sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.

The university actively promotes sustainable development through research, engagement with society, and campus development. It is committed to acting responsibly, finding sustainable solutions, and making ecologically responsible choices. Areas of research strength include the sustainable use of natural resources, bioeconomy and circular economy, environmental impacts on health, Arctic and boreal zone studies, and the impact of globalization and environmental change on human interactions and communities.
