The City of Espoo is introducing the principles for safer space
The City of Espoo's Cultural ServicesThe City of Espoo's Cultural Services in Finland has introduced principles for creating safer spaces in all its cultural facilities and services. This policy applies to various venues, including libraries, cultural houses, the KAMU Espoo City Museum, and concerts by the City Orchestra Tapiola Sinfonietta. The goal of these principles is to enhance the customer experience and promote equality while addressing issues like harassment. The principles were developed in collaboration with residents and customers through workshops and surveys. They apply to customers, visitors, employees, and performers.
Cultural staff have received training on the concept of safer spaces, equality promotion, and how to intervene in cases of harassment and inappropriate behavior. A reporting channel for such incidents will be available in the future, but for now, customers will be guided according to individual practices. The aim is to create an inclusive and respectful environment for all visitors to Espoo's cultural events and facilities. In 2022, Espoo's cultural events and facilities received approximately five million visits.
