Their collaboration aims to educate students about cyber risks, professions, and the broader implications of cybersecurity beyond just technology.
The partnership began when Postdoctoral Research Fellow Bilhanan Silverajan initiated Cyber Security Mornings at Tampere University. Deloitte, one of the participating organizations, now offers guest lectures in courses like "Cybersecurity II: Specialisation" and "The Internet of Things."
The collaboration's primary goal is to produce more cybersecurity professionals and raise general awareness about the field. Tampere University benefits by providing students with real-world insights into cybersecurity careers, while Deloitte introduces itself to potential future employees.
Hannu Kasanen, Director of Cyber Risk at Deloitte, emphasizes the increasing importance of cyber resilience in today's digital world. He believes that as digitization and automation grow, so does vulnerability to cyber threats, making cybersecurity a strategic priority for organizations.
Both Silverajan and Kasanen stress that cybersecurity encompasses more than just technology. It requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking. Understanding human behavior and effective communication are also crucial.
Deloitte aims to make Finland a secure society, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in fostering trust, gaining competitive advantages, and developing superior products and services. The courses offered have seen a surge in student registrations and have been well-received.
In conclusion, as cyber threats are global and borderless, international collaboration, like that between Tampere University and Deloitte, is essential for effective mitigation.
