The Þórsteinn Fund at the University of Iceland has announced its call for grant applications aimed at aiding blind and visually impaired students. Alongside supporting students, the fund also promotes research that focuses on the lives and challenges of blind and visually impaired individuals, with an emphasis on humanities and social sciences. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the fund offers scholarships for eligible students and research grants, with a total grant allocation of up to ISK 10 million. The last date for application submission is 6 November 2023, and decisions will be made by 4 December 2023. This initiative marks the 11th allocation round of the fund, which was instituted in 2006 in honor of Þórsteinn Bjarnason, a champion for the visually impaired in Iceland.
