The honor was presented by Yvonne Höller, the chairman of the Environmental Council. Sara Fusco, a part-time Faculty of Law teacher, clinched this year's award for her course, "European Convention of Human Rights."
Sara, currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Lapland, focuses on Arctic Indigenous Peoples' involvement in Environmental Constitutionalism. She earned her LLM degree in Polar Law from the University of Akureyri in 2019 and began teaching there in 2020. A firm believer in the intertwining of human rights and a sustainable environment, Sara emphasizes the importance of sociocultural perspectives in understanding the implications of climate change. She is in the process of elucidating the concept of "Indigenous Ecological Grief," advocating for a culturally oriented approach to address environmental degradation.
