The third edition of the Future of Democracy Summit took place in Gothenburg on May 29-30. The summit brought together over 150 leaders and decision-makers from academia, industry, media, the public sector, and civil society. The focus of the discussions was on addressing the dual transitions of our time: the digital transition and the green transition.
Initiated in 2021 by AI Sweden and Medier och Democracy, the Future of Democracy Summit aims to create a platform for cross-sectoral knowledge exchange on digitization, technology, innovation, and democracy. The first summit, held in October 2021, centered around the role of technology in ensuring equitable care and welfare across Sweden, as well as measures to protect citizens' privacy and trust in the digitalization process.
The relevance of discussing the intersection of AI and democracy has increased significantly in recent months. The emergence of technologies like Chat-GPT has brought AI into mainstream conversations. With the theme of the dual transition, addressing both the green and digital transformations was a natural choice, especially considering the urgency of climate change and the role of technological advancements in tackling it.
The summit incorporated a format that included lectures and roundtable discussions, providing participants with opportunities to engage in in-depth conversations and exchange ideas on these crucial topics.
