Master's student awarded for research on traffic flow patterns
Akshay Gurudath receives the Christer Gilén Scholarship for his degree project in statistics and machine learning.
Akshay GurudathAkshay Gurudath, a student at Linköping University, has been recognized for his thesis on AI-based prediction of road users' intents and reactions. He chose this topic in collaboration with a startup called Viscando, which focuses on traffic measurement using 3D and AI technology. The objective of the project was to predict pedestrians' intent by analyzing their past trajectories and studying slow traffic conditions. Akshay used machine learning to build prediction models based on sensor data collected on campus. His research yielded interesting findings, such as the model's ability to predict self-correction of course and collision avoidance. While acknowledging the progress made, Akshay believes there is still more to explore in this rapidly evolving field. He credits his supervisors for their invaluable support. Akshay will receive a prize of SEK 10,000 for his work.
