A Glimpse into Europe’s Mental Health Landscape: An Exploration by WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has embarked on a significant research project to analyze mental health services across Europe. Headed by Nina Kilkku from Tampere University of Applied Sciences and funded by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the study delves into service provision, professional education, and legislation. A core element is the inclusion of insights from individuals with firsthand mental health experiences and their families. The research aligns with WHO's European Framework for Action on Mental Health 2021–2025, emphasizing the shift from institutionalized to community-based care. Preliminary findings indicate varied mental health service provision across Europe, influenced by diverse historical, economic, and political contexts.
